Instructor Bio: 

Maya Muñoz-Tobón (they/she/ella/elle) is a community wellbeing facilitator and a Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist (through ISMETA). Blending expressive arts and body-based practices with nearly 20 years of experience in community program management and advocacy. They guide individuals and groups toward healing, resilience, and collective renewal through the integration of systems-thinking, internal intuition, nervous system regulation, and the art-making process for working through ancestral gifts and traumas. Maya brings in a justice-based lens informed by her multiplicity of identities, as an immigrant, gender-fluid, and neurodivergent person, to create new meanings and possibilities in our personal and collective lives.

Time line/Agenda:

Doors open at 10am | Welcome circle begins at 10:05am | Followed by Movement and creative exploration | 11:20am snacks | class ends promptly at 11:30am

What to wear:

Comfortable clothes to move around, comfortable socks or slippers for a shoes- off experience (if accessible to you), and layers since we will be in movement and sometimes in stillness as well

What to bring: Personal water bottle, a journal, and a curious mind and heart 

This Mindful and Restorative Movement session is a gentle introductory session for all who want to build a stronger connection and awareness to their bodies, and be able to identify patterns of how emotions are held in their bodies. This gentle slow movement session will bring you tools to release tension, open to new ways to engage with your own body, and be curious about your surroundings.

No movement or art experience necessary. All activities can be adjusted to each personal preference and capacity

Location and parking: The movement studio and space for several vehicles are behind the center located on Hawthorne.
